Small Group: “Boring… It’s just not for me!” E-mail

by Ami Gan

ImageBoring? If you think that tying up another night of your very limited free time is just a colossal waste of time, you just may not know what you’re missing! Boring is the last word I’d use to describe being in a small group.  Every Friday, after a grueling week at work and attending to life’s demands, I look forward to unwinding by seeing my friends, fellowshipping and learning God’s Word.  Of course, the sumptuous dinners are a bonus.  But aside from the opportunity of growing in our faith and knowing that you’re not alone in your walk, we occasionally don our team’s sports attire and show off our athletic talents from gutters balls (or should I say, spares & strikes?) to smashing some birdies.

We’d like to share some pictures of our badminton outing at Golden Gate Badminton in Emeryville. There were10 courts filled with badminton enthusiasts, and our FBCV group (if I may say) could have won the best uniform award. As the saying goes, what we lack in skill, we supplement with sports wear.  Though the weather was cold & wet, fourteen (14) members from two different small groups enjoyed a good workout through friendly matches. Even those who came as spectators couldn’t resist being part of the action as they fashionably modeled jeans as the latest sportswear.  Our kid prodigies, Nathan & Sharlene, also had a wonderful time learning the sport of badminton. I can say that the evening was pure fun.   We spent our time laughing, talking, exercising and most importantly eating again and quickly gaining the calories we burned.

Truly, it is a blessing to be in a small group…to have people who not only walk with you, but also to hangout and have fun with.  Don’t miss out on the joy of fellowship.  I can honestly say that it has made such a big impact on my life.  To me, what I first thought would be another obligation has turned out to be such a wonderfully necessary part of my life.  Join a small group and discover what you’ve been missing!
